Malkin follows Ovechkin as second Russian to reach 500 NHL goals

Russian Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin has scored 500 goals in the National Hockey League (NHL). The milestone goal was scored in a game against the Buffalo Sabres in Pittsburgh.

Malkin, 38, became the second Russian player to reach that milestone in league history. The first was Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin, who became the second-leading scorer in NHL history with 853 goals.

Malkin joins an elite club and becomes the 48th player to score 500 goals in the NHL, the same as NHL legend Lanny McDonald. Current players with similar accomplishments include Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby (592 goals) and Steven Stamkos (555 goals).

Evgeni Malkin also became the third player in Pittsburgh history to achieve this result, after Mario Lemieux (690 goals) and Sidney Crosby.

Earlier, Russian Michkov scored his debut double in the NHL for the Philadelphia Flyers. The Permyak native scored twice against his opponents in just 4.5 minutes in the first period.
