Russian Minister of Education and Science Valery Falkov announced at an intergovernmental meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that from 2026, applicants to pedagogical universities will be required to take the Unified State Exam in specialized subjects. This was reported by TASS.

According to the minister, there will be no fundamental changes in the Unified State Exam in 2025, but a number of changes are planned for 2026.

"For admission to the pedagogical program, which trains subject teachers, a mandatory unified national exam will be introduced in the profile of the future teacher's specialty," Falkov explained.

He recalled that today one can enroll in the specialty "Pedagogy" through the Unified State Exam in Sociology, but from 2026 applicants will have to take the Unified State Exam in the subject they will teach.
