Be Your Own Traffic Cop: Traffic Lights Out of Synchrony at One of Kaliningrad's Most Accident-Prone Intersections
"Klops" continues the project "Be Your Own Traffic Cop", the goal of which is to convey the ideas of drivers to the traffic police and city hall. The editorial office has already received 914 proposals. The next issue will discuss the problem with the traffic light at one of the intersections.
In Kaliningrad, at the intersections of Lenprospekt - Polotskaya and Krasnooktyabrskaya, two traffic lights were out of sync. Drivers reported this to Klops.
Poorly set countdown timers confuse drivers. “The timer is supposed to help navigate the road, but it works because of the time difference. This means that drivers cannot always predict at what second the yellow traffic light will start flashing. And this creates confusion and leads to the risk of accidents,” says Evgeniy, one of the drivers.
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate explained that the timer readings are not the basis for the driver to decide to drive through the intersection. They should only be guided by the traffic light signal itself, the department explained.
