Onishchenko: Quad-Banging Cannot Be Classified as a Psychiatric Illness

Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Education Gennady Onishchenko, during a video conference on the topic of “Biosecurity in the EAEU countries,” stated that quarobing is not a psychological illness.

"[Quad robbery] is a fashion. Yes, it has heated up and come to the fore, but it exists because it was popular among hippies, other social groups and youth movements to express their protest in this way. So, let's study this topic. I make it clear that this is not a mental illness. But if a mother puts her child on a leash, she must be dealt with," Onishchenko said (quoted by TASS).

“If this kind of content [is recognized] as harmful by experts, then, of course, it should be stopped, closed and banned for the sake of those involved,” said Gennady Onishchenko.

"Children and teenagers quickly understand. If it weren't an exaggeration, I would probably train my quads less often. And it's also self-expression. "Look how special I am, even my sport is not like others," the scientist said in an interview with 59.ru.

Director of the Institute of Clinical Psychology and Social Work of the Russian National Research Medical University. Professor Vera Nikishina, Doctor of Psychology N.I. Pirogova, characterized the practice of quadrobbing as an attempt to "disappoint parents' desire to escape from reality or to take their children away from reality."

“I agree that raising them is much more difficult than walking them on a leash,” Nikishina said in a conversation with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Quad-Bang (from the Latin quattuor - "four" and the English aerobics - "aerobics") is a trend whose adherents (mostly children) identify themselves with animals, wear masks, imitate their habits and post videos on social networks.

Perhaps interest in the quadrupe arose after the scandal with the singer Mia Boyka, who communicated on stage with 8-year-old Maryana in a cat mask at a concert in Nadym on August 30. A quadrover, God forbid?

The offensive communication caused negative comments towards the singer; artists Yegor Creed and Klava Koka, journalist Ksenia Sobchak and head of the League for Safe Internet Ekaterina Mizulina came to the girl’s defense.

The Russian veterans' movement has called for a ban on "Kvadrobok as a subversive and extremist movement." The "veterans" have sent a corresponding request to the Prosecutor General's Office and the Duma of the Russian Federation.

"It's not just a game, it's a new subculture where kids act like animals. They run on all fours, bark and bite.

But what is really worrying is the support of these "games" by parents, who not only indulge in them, but sometimes even go further and lead their children on a leash, like real pets. Such behavior not only disrupts the normal process of socialization, but also poses a danger to the child's mental health, affecting their perception of the world around them and their relationships with society," the appeal of the Russian Veterans Movement says.

"Men do not try on the images of dogs, cats or other people. They start going to the toilet in the wrong place, eating cat or dog food, attacking people, biting, scratching, etc.," Yana Lantratova, the people's chosen one, told Kommersant FM in an interview.

"As in the case of LGBT (the international LGBT public movement is recognized as extremist and terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation), the attacks came from the West, from the United States. We have already dealt with the first infection according to the law and banned it, and we will also fight the second one," Kolunov told RIA Novosti.

“We have carefully excluded this topic from our agenda,” Peskov said in a conversation with journalists.
