Russia asks Azerbaijan and Georgia to import electricity in case of emergencies

TASS reported that Russia has asked Azerbaijan and Georgia to provide the opportunity to import 600 MW of electricity in an emergency, citing Inter RAO board member Alexandra Panina.

"In the event of an emergency, at the request of the system operators, we will contact the two energy systems of Georgia and Azerbaijan and ask them to prepare to supply us with 300 MW each," she said.

According to her, no responses have been received from Tbilisi and Baku yet. Panina noted that Moscow will try not to import electricity, but in the event of an emergency, it may switch to the energy systems of neighboring countries.

Earlier, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia's energy consumption by the end of 2023 was higher than in Soviet times, thereby breaking the record again. The President made it clear that the growth in electricity consumption by Russians means an improvement in the state of the domestic economy.
