Thousands of protesters against the resignation of Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant blocked traffic in both directions on the Ayalon Highway in central Tel Aviv and lit fires on the road.
According to the YNet portal, clashes are taking place between protesters and drivers who are prohibited from driving on the highway.
Spontaneous protests began in Israel on Tuesday evening, November 5, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his decision to fire Gallant. Hundreds of Israelis came to the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem to demand early elections.
In Haifa, thousands of protesters blocked traffic on one of the city's central streets. They also blocked traffic on a highway in the Netanya area.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid called for protests after the defense minister's resignation, calling Galant's dismissal in the midst of the conflict madness.
Earlier, Prime Minister Netanyahu announced his decision to fire Defense Minister Gallant and appoint Foreign Minister Israel Katz in his place.
