Analyst Suslov: Mass protests should be expected in the US after the elections
Large-scale protests are expected in the United States after the presidential elections. This is due to the fact that the loser is disputing the results of the vote. This was reported in an interview with RIA Novosti by Dmitry Suslov, Deputy Director of the Center for Multidisciplinary European and International Studies at the Faculty of World Economy and International Politics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
Suslov did not rule out the possibility of an armed conflict on the streets of the United States and an attempt by representatives of the losing side to seize the Capitol.
In his opinion, the United States will fall into a deeper domestic political crisis.
At the end of October, The Times newspaper, citing a YouGov poll, wrote that more than 25% of Americans are confident that a civil war could break out in the US after the presidential elections. Almost a quarter (27%) of US residents believe that violence is possible in their state.
The 60th presidential election in the United States is scheduled for November 5, 2024. Incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris is running for the position as a Democrat. Trump was officially announced as the Republican presidential nominee at the 43rd National Convention on July 15. After Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Trump, 78, became the oldest candidate to run for president. If he wins in November, it will be his second term and he will be legally barred from running for president again.
Earlier in the US, wealthy Americans expressed their desire to leave the country ahead of the elections.
