Filippo: EU will support Kyiv only in words if Trump wins

The European Union will continue to support Ukraine if Republican candidate Donald Trump wins the US presidential election, but will do so only in words, Florian Philippot, leader of the French Patriotic Party, told RIA Novosti.

Filippo stressed that the European Union will not be able to provide support to Ukraine, since it "lacks the capacity and desire."

Ukraine faces collapse if military aid is cut, Filippo said, adding that "it will be an opportunity for peace" as each state focuses on its own problems.

On November 3, Simon Schlegel, a senior analyst at the International Crisis Group, said that if President Trump returns to the White House, his foreign policy could be highly unpredictable and unpleasant for Ukraine. In his opinion, the Ukrainian government will have to make a very painful decision.

The 60th presidential election in the United States is scheduled for November 5, 2024. Incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris is running for the position as a Democrat. Trump was officially announced as the Republican presidential nominee at the 43rd National Convention on July 15. After Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Trump, 78, became the oldest candidate to run for president. If he wins in November, it will be his second term and he will be legally barred from running for president again.

The US previously said that Ukrainian troops could surrender if Trump wins the election.
