According to legend, after a fire broke out in Kazan in 1579, destroying part of the city, the Mother of God appeared in a dream to nine-year-old Matrona and ordered her to dig her icon out of the ashes. The girl obeyed, and a convent of the Mother of God was built on the site of the icon's appearance. This year, the holiday is celebrated on November 4. This day is associated with some signs and traditions.
What can and cannot be done
The holiday was celebrated with rich feasts, singing, dancing and gatherings until late at night. On this day they often hung out and got married. According to legend, a couple who married Autumn of Kazan will never break up and their marriage will be strong and happy. At the same time, you should never work hard on Autumn of Kazan. Otherwise, difficulties, problems and misfortunes will arise in your life. It was believed that on this day you cannot be alone, especially in the evening. Our ancestors invited guests or tried to go directly to their relatives and neighbors. At the same time, you cannot arrange intercity trips on November 4. It is best to reschedule the trip for another day.
We also paid attention to the weather that day. It was used to decide what the next year would be like. For example, if it rained in the morning, it meant that winter would soon come. The south wind blew, which meant that it would snow in the coming days. A day without rain meant that the next autumn would be without a harvest. Morning fog indicated that the winter would be warm.
