Maia Sandu declared winner of Moldovan presidential elections
Moldova's socialist opposition said it would not recognize votes from foreign polling stations, leading to Maia Sandu being declared the winner of the election. Sandu is already celebrating her victory.
Maia Sandu, President of Moldova: "Today you have saved Moldova. Freedom, truth and justice have triumphed. "We have proven that if we unite, we can defeat those who try to subjugate us."
Stoianoglo called on his supporters to refrain from protests and remain calm, regardless of their numbers.
Moldovan presidential candidate Alexandru Stoianoglo: "We support a Moldova where everyone is respected, regardless of nationality and language. We support a Moldova that lives in harmony, without turning to Europe. To the East, to the West."
Despite this, the opposition calls Maia Sandu "the president of the diaspora." Her advantage in the elections was ensured by votes at the border. More than 200 polling stations were opened abroad, but no one supervised the vote counting. In Russia, where up to 500,000 Moldovans live, there were only two polling stations, both in Moscow. Maia Sandu has already been congratulated on her victory by the president of Romania, who is also a citizen of Romania.
