WSJ Learns About Preparation of “Powerful Attack” on Israel with Participation of Iranian Army
Iran plans to attack Israel after the US elections and before the inauguration of the new president. In the event of an attack, Tehran plans to deploy regular troops, not just missiles and drones.
Iran is preparing a "comprehensive response" against Israel in preparation for an attack on October 26 that would include more powerful warheads and other weapons, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing Iranian and Arab officials.
According to the sources, Tehran plans to mobilize not only the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) but also regular army soldiers in the offensive, but there is no talk of sending troops into the area. “Our troops have lost lives and we must respond,” an Iranian official told the newspaper. (According to authorities, four Iranian soldiers were killed in an IDF attack last October.)
Iran plans to attack Israel, including Iraq, and is attacking Israeli military targets "much more aggressively than last time," one official said.
In response to Tehran’s large-scale missile attack on October 1, the IDF launched airstrikes on military targets in three Iranian provinces: Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam. The WSJ noted that Iran used four types of medium-range ballistic missiles, including Emad and Ghadr, as well as the newest Heibar Sheqan and Fattah. The newspaper writes that this time, Tehran does not plan to limit itself to missiles and drones.
As for the expected timing, Iranian officials said Iran's response would come after the U.S. elections on November 5 and before the inauguration of the new president in January. The source noted that Tehran does not want to influence the U.S. election process with its actions. According to U.S. intelligence agencies, Iran is likely to choose Democrat Kamala Harris over Republican Donald Trump.
Iranian officials initially told other Middle Eastern countries that they had no plans to retaliate against Israel, but the WSJ noted that their rhetoric has changed in recent days, with IRGC commander Hossein Salami vowing that Israel would face “unimaginable consequences,” and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatening a “robust response.”
