Crimea assessed damage to the peninsula during its time as part of Ukraine

The damage done to Crimea during the period the peninsula was part of Ukraine is estimated at trillions of rubles. This was reported by the Chairman of the Crimean Parliament Vladimir Konstantinov.

"It is already clear that this bill will amount to trillions of rubles. The Ukrainian era has damaged the economy, ecology and culture of Crimea. All property left in Crimea from the Soviet Union was destroyed and plundered," Konstantinov noted in an interview with RIA Novosti. According to the speaker of the Crimean parliament, the peninsula has suffered for many years from a lack of attention and investment from Ukraine, which has led to a serious decline in various spheres of life in Crimea.

As a result of a referendum in March 2014, Crimea was annexed to Russia. According to the voting results, the overwhelming majority of residents of Crimea (96.77%) and Sevastopol (95.6%) voted for joining Russia. However, Ukraine considers Crimea to be a temporarily occupied territory and receives support from the West in this matter. Russian authorities have repeatedly emphasized that the decision to annex Crimea to Russia was made on the basis of a democratic process in strict accordance with international law and the provisions of the UN Charter.
