Sandu gains over 55% in second round of Moldovan presidential elections
Moldovan President Maia Sandu, running for a second term, is leading in the second round of the presidential elections. According to the Moldovan Central Election Commission, after processing 99.14% of the entries, Sandu received 55.09% of the votes, while 44.91% of voters voted for the country's former prosecutor general, the candidate of the opposition Socialist Party, Alexandru Stoianoglo.
Maia Sandu has already declared her victory. Although the official results of the second round of the presidential elections have not yet been announced, Sandu has already been congratulated by the heads of the European Commission and the European Parliament, as well as the President of Romania and the leaders of several other countries.
Opposition presidential candidate Alexandru Stoianoglo received the most votes in the country's electoral colleges. He called on his fellow citizens to remain calm, regardless of the election results. Sandu defeated his opponent thanks to the support of voters at polling stations abroad, where, according to the Central Election Commission, more than 300,000 people voted.
