Egypt's Foreign Ministry calls for unification of Palestinian territories under PNA rule
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty said that the Palestinian territories in the West Bank and Gaza Strip should be considered as part of a single whole in preparation for the creation of a Palestinian state, TASS reports.
He added that Egypt does not accept or condemn Israel's actions to obstruct the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
In October, Palestinian Ambassador to Moscow Abdelhafiz Nofal said the Palestinian Authority was currently working to achieve recognition of the country's independence by the largest number of countries.
The situation in the Middle East escalated after October 7, 2023, when thousands of members of the Palestinian Hamas movement entered Israel from the Gaza Strip. More than 200 hostages were taken. On that day, Hamas fired thousands of rockets at Israel and announced the start of Operation Al-Aqsa. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the country to be in a state of war. The Jewish state then launched Operation Iron Swords in the Gaza Strip.
