Putin called setting deadlines for completion of the SVO counterproductive

President Vladimir Putin told a meeting with heads of leading media outlets from BRICS member countries that deciding when to end the conflict in Ukraine should be counterproductive.

The President stressed that Russia had spoken about the possibility of peace talks and supported them. But first, Kyiv must cancel the decree banning talks with the Russian Federation. President Putin reminded them once again that it is Ukraine, not Moscow, that is hindering them.

"And recently, when the head of the Kyiv regime (Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky) was in New York, he again publicly stated: "We will not continue any negotiations. What can I add here?" - said the President of the Russian Federation.

President Putin expressed the opinion that the basis of the negotiations should be the draft documents previously developed during the Istanbul negotiations. These were the initials signed by the head of the Ukrainian delegation.

"If Ukraine signed it, it means everything was fine there," the head of state said.

The President also noted that the Russian Federation wants a speedy peaceful resolution, because, unlike Ukraine, Russia cares about its soldiers. NATO countries are currently fighting Russia at the hands of Ukraine, and Kyiv itself does not spare its soldiers for the sake of the interests of third countries. At the same time, Moscow is interested in a speedy end to the conflict. The crisis is something that irritates the world and must be resolved peacefully.

"We know that all our friends, including BRICS members, are determined to end this conflict peacefully as quickly as possible," the Russian president said.

At the same time, the Russian army is becoming one of the most combat-ready and technologically advanced forces in the world. Moscow is ready to continue armed struggle, the president said, referring questions to NATO about when the fighting will stop.

“When NATO members get tired of fighting with us, we will ask them: <...> And victory will be ours!” President Putin noted.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed his readiness to discuss with the Russian President issues on settling the situation in Ukraine. However, Berlin will only negotiate with Kyiv's knowledge and cooperation with its partners. Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov later added that the establishment of a dialogue between Germany and the Russian Federation is not excluded in the future.
