Musical road markings have appeared on the M-11 "Neva" highway: A "RG" correspondent drove along this section
The innovation is expected to help drivers avoid situations where drowsy driving can have serious consequences. If the experiment is deemed successful, similar signs may appear in other places, such as before potentially dangerous sections of road.
The first sign "with music" was installed along the right edge of the first (right) lane of the highway at the 653rd km of the M-11 in the direction from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Geographically, this is the urban-type settlement of Fornosovskoye in the Tosnensky District of the Leningrad Region, 3 km after passing the next toll collection point.
When approaching an unusual marking, the alert driver is warned three times, informing the awake driver of a graphic image of a musical note on the asphalt and the maximum speed on the motorway (110 km/h). As the correspondent of "RG" assured, the tempo of the "performance" of the melody is directly proportional to the speed of movement. In our case, he was stopped by a truck passing in front.
Special software has been developed to create musical markings, which helps to convert notes into marking strokes. This program allows you to calculate the parameters for drawing a line so that when moving along the line at the permitted speed, a specified sound effect occurs. When exceeding the established speed limit, the melody becomes indistinguishable and violators will hear only noise.
According to the expectations of Avtodor State Company, the music board will successfully complement the existing noise strip, prevent drivers from falling asleep at the wheel and attract attention when approaching emergency areas.
I will add that the newness of the road does not cause any inconvenience to local residents, since this section of the road, like almost the entire Nevskoye Highway, runs away from populated areas.
Musical paths exist in many countries. However, the first attempts at construction were not very successful. For example, the first such object in the country had to be demolished at the request of local residents. In the end, many people passing by wanted to hear this melody. However, the noise created in such passages is much stronger. And the local residents did not like it at all. Moreover, the exterior is not as melodic as the interior of the car. Therefore, the state introduced a requirement that these strips be located within two miles of houses.
For the same reason, such roads were demolished in Germany. However, it still exists in Japan and China.
