Biden says US intelligence is involved in killing Hamas leader
The US president said he would soon call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to congratulate him on Sinbar's ouster and discuss "ending this war once and for all."
Biden said Sinwar was "an insurmountable obstacle to achieving that goal," and stressed: "There are no more obstacles."
Biden also said US intelligence agencies under his command helped Israel track the location of the Hamas leader and compared Sinwar's elimination to the killing of bin Laden in 2011.
US President Joe Biden: "Immediately after the October 7 massacre, I directed my intelligence experts to work with their Israeli counterparts to find and track down Sinwar and other Hamas leaders hiding in the Gaza Strip."
This morning, the Israeli military announced that it had killed Yahya Sinwar, the man believed to be responsible for the October 7, 2023 attack. Sinwar was reportedly killed during an operation in southern Gaza on October 16. According to media reports, the Hamas leader's body was identified from photographs of his teeth.
After Sinwar's assassination, Netanyahu addressed the Israelis and declared "the beginning of the last days" of Hamas.
