Former Chief Narcologist of the Russian Federation Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

He and the other defendants pleaded not guilty.

A Moscow court has sentenced former freelance narcologist for the Russian Ministry of Health Yevgeny Bryun to seven years in prison for fraud. RIA Novosti reports that he is accused of fraud on an especially large scale and theft of more than 130 million rubles.

In particular, the defendants in the case, including Brun, purchased containers for tests and reagents for determining drug and alcohol addiction at inflated prices. By the court's decision, Brun was banned from working in government agencies for 2.5 years and fined 850 thousand rubles.

Other defendants were also found guilty in this case. Former Vice President of the Russian Federation for Combating Drugs Vladimir Yakushev was sentenced to seven years in prison, former Director of the Moscow Scientific and Practical Center for Combating Drugs Sergei Koporov - to four years, Head of the Trade Department Lyudmila Eremenkina and CEO of the company "Microtechnology" Sergei Vasiliev were sentenced to six years in prison. They also received fines ranging from 400 thousand to 1.5 million rubles.

None of the prisoners admitted their guilt.
