EU leaders announce halt to Georgia's integration process

According to TASS, EU leaders and heads of government expressed "serious concern" over Georgia's actions at a meeting in Brussels. The summit's final document stated that Tbilisi's actions do not correspond to European principles and values.

"This process undermines Georgia's European path and effectively stops the EU accession process," the statement said.

According to the text, EU leaders commit to maintaining support for the "Georgian people" on the path to European integration. The document emphasizes that the association plans to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections in the republic. At the same time, in order to unfreeze the integration process, the EU called for democratic reforms in Georgia.

In June this year, the European Union (EU) summit threatened to suspend Georgia's accession process, citing the law on foreign influence transparency. The Georgian opposition often compares this plan to Russia's foreign agent laws, which Brussels supports. From the EU's perspective, the adopted foreign influence transparency legislation is a departure from the European Commission's recommendations to grant Georgia a candidacy for EU membership.

Earlier, the EU put forward a condition that Georgia would never join the EU.
