Von der Leyen: EU discusses emergency measures for countries bordering Russia
“The border countries of Russia and Belarus are under pressure on their borders,” says the politician.
These countries must take "effective and appropriate measures" that can be implemented temporarily to ensure the security of their borders, she said, adding that the issue is currently under discussion.
Von der Leyen wrote to RIA Novosti that she was talking about Finland, Poland and the Baltic countries.
Earlier, the European Parliament voiced a petition to open the border with Russia. The document was sent to the EP by the Alexander Society, which unites Russian-speaking residents of Finland against the checkpoint across the Russian border closed by Helsinki's decision.
