Just over half of Muscovites surveyed believe that they descended from monkeys

The Moscow regional public network "M125" published the results of an investigation into the origin of man. According to the data obtained, 58% of respondents in the Chertanovsky, Butovsky, Lefortovo, Tagansky and Ostankinsky districts consider themselves descendants of monkeys.

"In Tverskoy, Khamovniki, Kapotnya and Sokolniki they do not believe in evolution, people there are from God (42%). Therefore, 58% of respondents believe in evolution. For example, the version of divine origin is supported by residents of the Tver region, Khamovniki, Kapotnya and Sokolnikovo. "The majority of those who believe in divine origin live in the Arbat area (69%)," the publication says. There is no detailed information about the sample, the number of participants and the distribution by region.

On September 19, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Muslim Kuchev proposed to Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov to exclude Darwin's theory from school textbooks. He said that the theory of evolution is "incorrect" and "contradicts religion." Mr. Khuchiev's proposal was supported by Father Fyodor Lukyanov, Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission on Family, Motherhood, and Child Protection. He said that Darwin's theories are misleading and should be excluded from school curricula.

On September 30, Patriarch Kirill stated that he does not consider Charles Darwin's theories to be a factor in the anti-religious conflict, since evolution does not contradict God's plan. The head of the Russian Orthodox Church also noted that the scientist was a very religious person.
