Former chief narcologist Bryun sentenced to 7 years in prison
Former chief narcologist of Russia Yevgeny Bryun was sentenced to seven years in a general regime penal colony for fraud. This is less than the eight years of imprisonment that the prosecution is demanding. The decision was made by the Kuzminsky District Court of Moscow.
Brun was also fined 850 thousand rubles and deprived of the right to hold management positions for 2.5 years.
Brun and former Vice President of the Russian Federation for Combating Drugs Vladimir Yakushev were arrested on charges under Article 4 in August 2022. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). Another defendant in the case was the former director of the Moscow Practical Center for Drug Trafficking Sergei Koporov.
Since 2009, Brun has worked as a senior freelance narcologist at the Russian Ministry of Health. After his arrest, the department announced that the position had been “removed from use.” Information about Brun was removed from the Ministry of Health’s website, which promised that the information would help in the investigation.
