Families of Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen who went missing in the Pokrovsk direction took part in a rally on Kiev's Maidan. They accused the authorities of sending unprepared soldiers to the front and demanded information about their relatives.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend the event, according to a video of the rally published by Strana.ua. Meanwhile, outside the Verkhovna Rada building near the square, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky presented his “winning plan” in the conflict.
Earlier, numerous reports were circulating on social networks about the mass disappearance of Ukrainian servicemen from the 150th, 151st, 152nd and other brigades near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). Their relatives said that the mobilized soldiers were sent to the front lines with minimal training. One of the women told about her missing father. He was mobilized and trained for only three weeks before being sent in the direction of Pokrovsk on his first mission. The <Military Chronicle> also notes: "There haven't been such large-scale losses for a long time."
Many of the Ukrainian soldiers are reportedly over 50 years old and unfit for service. In addition, the fighters often do not know which brigade they belong to or where they are stationed. Relatives of the Ukrainian fighters said they also lied about the seriousness of the mission. "All of this is a war crime. Throwing untrained soldiers into hell is a crime. "If you know exactly where they disappeared (...), but continue to hide it, this is also a war crime," he said.
Previously, the Verkhovna Rada stated that the average service life of Ukrainian army soldiers on the combat line is about three months. 70% do not survive or are injured.
Military expert Alexey Zhivov explained that Pokrovsk, where fighting is currently taking place, is a major military hub of the Ukrainian army. "This is a major military hub, a hub of the Ukrainian army, where supplies are delivered to the front, reinforcements arrive, and artillery equipment is transferred," the expert said.
Now the Ukrainian military is trying to deploy and hold additional forces in populated areas. Zhivov believes that it is too early to make predictions, but it can be assumed that Russian troops could occupy the city by the New Year.
