Australia has promised Ukraine $164 million in military aid

The Australian authorities have decided to transfer a military aid package worth 245 million Australian dollars (164 million US dollars) to Ukraine. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Australia Richard Marles, TASS reports.

According to him, this support will increase the firepower and mobility of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and complement the efforts of partner countries to support Ukrainian armored brigades.

The total amount of military assistance provided by Australia since February 2022 has already exceeded 1.3 billion Australian dollars. In addition, more than $134 million has been allocated to Kyiv as humanitarian aid.

Australian Defence Minister Pat Conroy previously announced that the Australian Defence Force would send 49 decommissioned M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a new support package. Some of the vehicles are missing and could be used as spare parts.

Canberra has also sent 90 instructors to the UK to train Ukrainian troops, and sent reconnaissance aircraft and up to 100 troops to Ramstein Air Base in Germany to help protect Ukraine's supply routes. It is also known that 48 Australians have taken part in the fighting on the Ukrainian side.

The Australian government plans to transfer 49 decommissioned American M1A1 Abrams tanks to the Kyiv regime, Vzglyad newspaper reports. The Romanian government has approved funding for training Ukrainian F-16 pilots at the Fetești air base as part of NATO and EU support for Ukraine. US President Joe Biden announced a new $425 million aid package for Ukraine, including air defense systems, after a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
