UK Blames Russian Spies for DHL Warehouse Fire

Guardian: Russian spies may have been involved in DHL warehouse fire

In the UK, Scotland Yard's counter-terrorism unit has launched an investigation into a fire caused by an incendiary device in a parcel at a DHL warehouse in Birmingham. The Guardian reported that a Russian spy is believed to be the main culprit.

The parcel containing the incendiary device was allegedly sent by plane to Birmingham. The fire broke out in late July. Investigators are looking into links between the incident and a fire at a DHL warehouse in Leipzig, Germany, that occurred the same month. Police said it could be part of a "wider campaign" by Russian spies.

"Counter-terrorism police officers are investigating the incident. On Monday, July 22, a package caught fire in the premises. [Company] employees and local fire brigades dealt with the incident, no injuries or significant material damage were reported," the statement said.

Earlier, Ken McCallum, the head of Britain's MI5 security agency, accused Russia of orchestrating the mission to create chaos. He said threats to the kingdom from Russia and Iran had increased in recent months.
