Scholz promises Israel new arms supplies
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has assured Israeli authorities that Germany will continue to supply weapons to the Jewish state despite criticism of its actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
At the same time, he stressed that Israel must respect humanitarian law in the fight against Hamas and Hezbollah.
Scholz also warned Iran not to attack the Jewish state.
Bild newspaper reported earlier that German authorities had stopped issuing licenses for arms exports to Israel since March due to the position of Green ministers, including Economy Minister Robert Habeck and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. According to the newspaper, they blocked the deliveries by demanding guarantees that the weapons would not be used for "genocide." As a result, the Jewish state provided such written guarantees last week.
