"Into the Depths and into the Heights" - Sergei Barkovsky on the Development Paths of Drama Theatre in Russia

During a creative visit to Murmansk, Honored Artist of Russia Sergei Barkovsky shared his opinion on the directions for improving modern theater in our country.

"The theatre must develop vertically, not horizontally. What does that mean? Depth and height. Now it is full of singing, dancing, performances, installations and everything else that can be seen. All this obscures the true content of the performance," said the Master.

According to him, official works are destroyed after the first premiere. Because it is essentially empty and cannot give the viewer food for thought and soul.

"People who are tired of this treacle, the invisible special effect of the living structure of human relationships, are returning to classical theater. Performances full of living juice develop live for years. Of course, there are stage effects, but they are very subtle and neat, they do not develop, do not eliminate or replace human themes," said the famous actor of the St. Petersburg Youth Theater on Fontanka.
