WP: Netanyahu told the US he is ready to strike Iran's military facilities, but not nuclear ones
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Biden administration that Israeli forces are prepared to attack Iranian military targets, not oil or nuclear facilities, the Washington Post reported, citing sources.
"This suggests that a more limited counteroffensive to prevent all-out war is possible, according to two officials familiar with the situation," the report said.
The report said Israel's response to Iran would be carefully crafted to avoid the perception of "political interference in the US elections." Newspaper sources say Prime Minister Netanyahu understands that the scale of Israel's airstrikes could impact the US presidential election.
Iran attacked Israel on the evening of October 1. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps called it a response to the assassinations of Hamas political director Ismail Haniyeh, Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and IRGC deputy head Abbas Nilforoushan.
A total of 180 ballistic missiles were launched, most of which were intercepted.
Israel's Defense Ministry has promised a "lethal and unexpected" response to Iranian missile attacks.
