Experts explained why such drivers should be held accountable.

Although modern laws do not have clear restrictions on the use of old cars, this situation does not mean that their owners can completely relax. Traffic police inspectors have always had a heightened interest in old cars, and this trend has intensified since the beginning of September last year. Amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations (RTR), which include a new list of faults for which vehicles are prohibited from operation, clearly confirm this.

Traffic police representatives emphasize to owners of old cars that they must carefully monitor the technical condition of their cars. Not all drivers are required to undergo a technical inspection (TI), but it is important to remember that you may need this document when crossing borders, providing transport services or selling cars. However, the absence of necessary maintenance requirements is not a reason for negligence. Inspectors check old cars especially carefully.

If the inspection reveals serious defects, such as the installation of LED lamps in the optics, a non-working anti-lock braking system or unseasonal tires, the owner faces not only a fine, but also a special inspection to identify and eliminate all defects. In the most serious cases, your vehicle may be deregistered.

It is worth noting that it is not only owners of older cars who may encounter problems on the road. Many violations also concern drivers of cars with a manual transmission. Since students at many driving schools mainly practice their skills on easy-to-control automatic transmissions (AT), not every driver has the right to drive such vehicles. Your right to drive a car with a manual transmission is indicated on your driver's license, and violations may result in fines.
