A student from Tajikistan told what surprised him most in Tomsk

The creative team of the Sib.fm Tomsk Group continues the project "Tests for Foreigners". The main character of the issue is Dzhamshed Radzhabov from Tajikistan, studying at Tomsk University.

The project team met with 10 foreign students living and studying in Tomsk and tested their knowledge of Russian culture. In addition, as part of the project, foreign students talked about the customs of their homeland and how they adapted to Russia in general and Tomsk in particular.

Jamshed Rajabov came to Tomsk from Tajikistan in 2018. According to him, studying at a Russian university was a childhood dream for many students in his home country.

"Studying in Russia not only helps you get a prestigious education, but also helps you learn the Russian language better, understand its customs and culture. This is important because today Russia and Tajikistan cooperate in many areas. We teach Russian at school, but when I came to Russia, I realized that my knowledge was not enough," recalls Jamshed.

According to him, the first years in Siberia were very difficult for him. Jamshed had to relearn Russian. It turns out that the man from Tajikistan does not understand many colloquial expressions and words.

In Tomsk, Jamshed enrolled in Russian language courses for foreigners, but his friends helped him understand the language and culture best. As the foreign student noted, local residents and students are always ready to lend a helping hand.

"In fact, I heard many false rumors, for example, that Russian people do not smile often or are unfriendly. However, this turned out to be untrue. Now I have many friends not only in Russia, but also in other countries. Foreign students from India, China and Sri Lanka study in Tomsk. We not only communicate, but sometimes even go to the cinema together or walk around the city," Jamshed said.

According to Jamshed, Russians and Tajiks are similar in many ways. The two nations share common values, but of course there are differences. So Jamshed was very surprised by the Russian wedding and some Russian dishes that he tried for the first time in Tomsk. In the video, a student from Tajikistan talks about how much he loves okrossika and borscht, and also tries to explain popular expressions in Russia.
