Russia proposes to create another day off
The Orthodox holiday of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God, celebrated on October 14, should become an official holiday in Russia. This was stated by the chairman of the All-Russian People's Movement "Orthodox Rus'" Mikhail Ivanov.
"The Protection of the Holy Mother of God is a beacon for every warrior in Russia, and this holiday has always had a sacred meaning. Considering the important role of the Church, the Protection of the Holy Mother of God can become a symbol of unity and protection and deserves to be declared an official holiday in Russia," Mikhail Ivanov said in an interview with NEWS.RU.
The President of the Russian Orthodox Church emphasized the role of the church in protecting Russia's sovereignty. As an example, he cited Metropolitan Kirill's blessing to Alexander Nevsky before the battle with the Swedes.
In everyday speech, the Protection of the Holy Mother of God is called the Veil, the Veil of the Day, or the Veil of the Father and was established in the 10th century in honor of the appearance of the Mother of God in the Church of St. Constantinople. She covered her parishioners with a cloth to protect them.
According to tradition, on this day believers try to start important things, and girls pray for marriage. Many victories of the Russian army are relevant to this day.
