Street lighting and illumination in the capital have been switched to winter mode

Experts have switched the lighting of Moscow streets and buildings to winter mode, Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov reported.

"In connection with the continuing reduction in daylight hours, the necessary adjustments have been made to the city's outdoor lighting schedule," he explained.

Building and street lighting now turn on earlier and turn off later. In addition, the decision to turn on or off the lights is based on both your daily routine and the actual light level transmitted by special sensors.

"Once it reaches a certain point, that signal will be received. For example, if it is snowing, heavy rain or a cloudy day, the light will start working earlier," the deputy mayor said.

At the same time, the architectural and artistic lighting of Moscow buildings is switched on simultaneously with the outdoor lighting, but is switched off at different times. Usually, the lights in residential buildings are switched off at 23:00, and in administrative buildings - at midnight. At 1 am, the lights in the vestibules of metro stations are switched off, and at 3 am, the lights on the bridges in the city center go out.

As reported earlier, by 2024, Moscow will have installed about 55 thousand energy-saving lamps. Regular replacement of sodium and halogen lamps allows saving up to 30% of electricity. LED lamps also last longer.
