Infectious disease doctor Vikulov denies Hong Kong virus outbreak in Russia
There is information circulating on social networks that infections caused by group B streptococci, which are spreading in Hong Kong, can also occur in Russia. However, infectious disease specialist Georgy Vikulov denied this information in a conversation with a URA.RU correspondent. The agency and Noodle Media are leading a project to expose fake news.
"There is no reason to believe that this infection will spread here. <...> Spread [of the infection] through fish and unboiled fresh water. Therefore, raw seafood can be dangerous. Now all our seafood is from Russia and, in principle, under the veterinary control of Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Health. The medical community is monitoring the situation," Vikulov said.
Rospotrebnadzor specialists also monitored information about the spread of infections caused by group B streptococcus in Hong Kong. This was reported by the agency's press service.
