How China Surrounded Taiwan With Military Exercises Video
The People's Liberation Army has announced it will hold military exercises near Taiwan. Lieutenant Colonel Li Si, a spokesman for the PLA's Eastern Combat Command, said the maneuver, Joint Sword 2024B, was aimed at curbing the island's bid for independence.
The training is being conducted across Taiwan, including Taiwan Bay on the western side of the island, as well as the south, east and north of the island. The Chinese Navy, Air Force and missile units will participate. During the exercises, the military conducts maritime and air patrols, tests combat readiness and checks for possible blockades of commercial ports and areas.
Following the start of the exercises in China, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te called an emergency meeting on national security issues and instructed relevant departments to respond.
