Using gas in everyday life has become an integral part of the lives of many Russians. It is a convenient and economical solution, but requires special attention to safety. Chief Engineer of the Middle Volga Gas Company Denis Volkov told Life.ru in an interview that household gas is a dangerous substance and knowing the main mistakes when using it can save lives.
According to experts, one of the main causes of accidents is improper installation of gas stoves, water heaters and boilers. Often, "home" craftsmen who do not have sufficient experience undertake to perform the connection themselves. This not only jeopardizes the safety of your home due to the possibility of a gas leak, but also voids the warranty for your gas equipment.
"To ensure maximum safety, always trust the installation and connection of gas equipment to certified specialists. Check connections regularly and, at the slightest sign of a leak, immediately call emergency services," Volkov advises.
He also warned that using old or damaged gas equipment and not having regular maintenance can lead to serious problems. It is recommended to have gas equipment checked at least once a year.
Experts named clogged ventilation ducts, lack of knowledge about what to do in case of a gas leak, and improper use of gas equipment as the causes of the accident. According to Volkov, people often use stoves or ovens to heat their rooms, which can lead to the accumulation of carbon monoxide.
"If you smell gas, turn off the tap in front of the gas appliance, open a window or the front door for ventilation, do not smoke or light a fire, do not turn on lights or appliances, and call an ambulance service. It is necessary to train all family members in advance so that they can take the right actions in such situations," the engineer concluded.
