What is Order No. 264 for the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate: Why Drivers Should Know It

Order No. 264 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs contains the Administrative Regulations of the National Transport Safety Inspectorate, which was adjusted last year. The new regulation affected the work of both car owners and law enforcement officers, the Autonews portal notes.

In particular, if previously inspectors had the right to stop a vehicle only in the event of a violation of the rules or the direction of the notice, now traffic police officers can stop a vehicle to check documents without additional grounds.

In addition, according to the new rules, documents that hinder the investigation will be handed over to police officers without cover. At the same time, traffic police officers are prohibited from using the phones of other road users, except in emergency situations.

Officers also have the power to prohibit other road users from using mobile phones and ask vehicle owners to leave their vehicles if officers detect that a driver is tired or in pain.

This will help the traffic police to identify people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. At the same time, inspectors can officially wear civilian clothes, but only during covert traffic control in designated areas.

Police officers also have the right to fine drivers with broken windshield wipers or headlights, and to suspend them from driving until the problem is fixed.

Law enforcement officers are prohibited from using language or actions that may discriminate against drivers on a variety of grounds, including gender, age, national origin, marital status, political beliefs, or religious beliefs.
