The hottest movie and TV series premieres of autumn 2024: what to watch

The world of cinema is ready to give real excitement to all movie lovers in the fall of 2024. This season will feature several notable premieres. From the long-awaited Venom trilogy to the epic Gladiator sequel, these films will be the main hits of the season. And The Lone Wolves with Brad Pitt and George Clooney in the lead roles will bring us back to epic battles and deep, dramatic storylines. URA.RU has prepared reviews of film and TV series releases this fall.

What it's about: District Attorney Margaret finds herself in a terrible situation. Covered in blood next to a stranger's body in a luxury hotel room. Confused, she finds contact information on her phone for someone who will "solve the problem." A professional cleaner quickly arrives and gets to work, but soon another cleaner appears, called in by the hotel owner. Now two experienced solvers, accustomed to working alone, must join forces, despite their mutual dislike.

Starring: Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Austin Abrams, Amy Ryan and others.

What it's about: Joe, an elite assassin operating in Europe, rescues dancer Macy and begins a relationship with her during a mission in Budapest. After learning of a fatal diagnosis, Joe decides to hire an assassin to kill him quickly and painlessly. But a testing error turns everything upside down. He is healthy. The order cannot be reversed, and now Europe's best assassins are hunting him.

Starring: Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella, Pom Klementieff, Drew McIntyre and others.

What it's about: Eddie Brock and his ally and enemy, the Venom symbiote, are on the run from their pursuers. They are pursued by aliens from Venom's home planet and mysterious soldiers sent by the government. The third film, which completes the unusual trilogy about the popular Marvel antihero, promises to retain the best elements of its predecessor: the bromance between the heroes, the charismatic Tom Hardy, and Venom's light body horror. Most importantly, such shortcomings as weak scripts are not repeated. Among the new faces are Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) and Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man).

What it's about: While his wife is in the hospital, Nick decides to make his life easier by buying a high-tech robot with artificial intelligence that will take care of his children and household chores. Robots perform tasks perfectly, learn quickly, and try to do everything to satisfy the needs of their owners.

Plot: On the 24th floor, newcomers Perempuan and Zamyatin arrive at a multi-story building where food is served on a descending platform. Residents of the upper floors are warned to eat only certain foods. Violators of the order will be severely punished. Punishers patrolling the levels will sooner or later punish those who do not obey.

What it's about: Lucius, grandson of Marcus Aurelius and son of Lucilla and Maximus, lives a peaceful life with his family until his home is invaded by the armies of Rome's new rulers, Geta and Caracalla. Fearing his claim to the throne, they enslave him and turn him into a gladiator. This is a direct sequel to Ridley Scott's cult classic, minus Russell Crowe but with a possible new star, Paul Mescal (Normal People). The screenplay is by David Franzoni, who wrote the first Gladiator.

Cast: Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Connie Nielsen and others.

What it's about: Oscar winner Francis Ford Coppola hasn't made a film since 2011's Inbetween. In 2024, he returns with the most ambitious project of his career: Metropolis. The epic sci-fi film was a longtime dream of Coppola's, and the director even sold his winery for $120 million to finance it.

Adam Driver stars as Caesar Catalina, an architect attempting to rebuild the city of New Rome in an alternate modern-day America. His opponent is Franklin Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), a corrupt mayor driven by greed and political intrigue. Megalopolis premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival to mixed reviews.

Plot: A world-famous journalist (Cate Blanchett), married to a lawyer (Sacha Baron Cohen), accidentally begins reading a novel by an unknown author. To her surprise, she realizes that the book's protagonist is identical to her except for his name, and the plot reveals her deepest, darkest secrets. It soon becomes clear that a vengeful widower and professor (Kevin Kline) is behind the book's publication.

Starring: Cate Blanchett, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cody Smith-McPhee, Kevin Kline and others.

What it's about: "It's Agatha" is a standalone series in the Marvel Universe that tells the life story of Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch familiar to viewers from the series "WandaVision", where she was the main antagonist. Agatha has incredible magical abilities such as teleportation, hypnosis, telekinesis, illusion creation and energy projection, and can even summon creatures from other dimensions. Her faithful assistant is a friendly cat named Ebony, who in case of danger turns into a powerful leopard.

Starring: Kathryn Hahn, Paul Adelstein, Joe Locke, Okwui Okpokwasili, Patti LuPone and others.

What it's about: The final part of the series follows Elena and Lila as they come of age, against the backdrop of turbulent political and social change in Italy in the 1980s. Viewers will witness the culmination of a long and difficult journey that began in their early childhood. Alba Rohrwacher (Elena) and Irene Maiorino (Lila) reprise their roles.

Starring: Alba Rohrbacher, Irene Maiorino and others.

What it's about: This mini-series tells the story of the dark side of the boxing world. During the famous fight between Muhammad Ali and Jerry Carrey, scammers handed out invitations to a private after-fight party for wealthy spectators. Many influential figures in the criminal world fell victim to this trap and lost a huge amount of money. However, they cannot go to the police because their property was acquired illegally.

Summary: The life of the Voronin family changes dramatically after the death of Nikolai Petrovich. Moving to a new apartment is only the beginning of a series of changes for Kostya, Vera and their children, while Galina Ivanovna seeks solitude outside the city. In search of herself, Lenya first seeks refuge with her mother and younger brother, adding another variable to her already unstable family life. But that's not all. The intrusion of Masha's fiancé into the Voronins' life, which caused Kostya's obvious disapproval, effectively took the place of the "annoying parent" that previously belonged to Galina Ivanovna. This spin-off reveals new aspects of family relationships, showing how tragedy and new circumstances change existing connections and roles within the family.

What: The new installment of the American History franchise, created by Ryan Murphy, will focus on high-profile sports scandals and the fates of famous athletes. Each season will unravel one of these stories. The first season will focus on Aaron Hernandez, a talented football player who was loved by millions of fans and earned a huge amount of money. But fame and fortune became his downfall. Nightclubs, bad relationships and drugs dragged him into a dark world. Due to illegal drugs, mental health issues and unresolved childhood trauma, Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison for murder.

What it's about: Unlike the over-the-top emotionality of Euphoria, this new teen drama offers a quieter, more introspective look at growing up. Austin Abrams, best known for his modest role in Euphoria, plays the lead, and here he takes on a very different role. The film centers on a 16-year-old girl (Megan Stott) whose interests extend beyond loud parties and complicated romantic relationships. Her world is the quiet of forest paths and the solitude of nature.

What it's about: In this tense thriller, a seasoned MI6 agent (Lashana Lynch, best known for her role as 007 in the latest Bond film) enters into a deadly game with the enigmatic assassin and master of disguise, the Jackal. After his role in The Good Nurse, Eddie Redmayne once again embodies evil and becomes a threat to the world. Unlike the classic assassinations by Charles de Gaulle or Bruce Willis, the Jackal's target in this film remains a mystery, which adds interest and tension to the plot.
