River transport passenger flow in Novosibirsk will reach 300 thousand people
According to forecasts, in 2024, about 300 thousand people will use river passenger transport in Novosibirsk. In 2023, this figure was more than 250 thousand passengers.
In June this year, the Russian government amended the list of inland waterways by adding 12 stopping points on the Ob River in the Novosibirsk region. Although these points existed before, they were not officially registered, which made dredging difficult and transportation accessibility difficult.
At present, specialists from the Ministry, the Novosibirsk City Hall and local authorities are working on preparing river transport stops to comply with regulatory requirements. The cost of this work has not yet been disclosed.
According to representatives of the ministry, the inclusion of the stopping point in the official register of waterways will make it possible to create a single passenger line connecting the Mikhailovskaya Embankment with the new park and water park.
River passenger transport is actively developing in cities such as Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Yaroslavl. Regular services on two routes and in several directions resumed from Moscow in 2023. In Nizhny Novgorod, passengers are served by high-speed lines connecting various cities.
In Yakutia, river transport is also organized in a number of settlements.
The creation of a network of river stations in Novosibirsk will significantly improve transport links between remote areas of the city and simplify travel between the banks of the Ob. According to NSUEM associate professor and president of the Siberian Trade Union of Transport Workers Sergei Maksimov, river transport can relieve the load on automobile bridges and provide more efficient transport, he wrote for RBC-Novosibirsk.
Among the advantages of sea passenger transport, Maksimov highlights its high carrying capacity and the possibility of organizing circular routes. But he also points to seasonality and the need for parking as the main disadvantages.
