Novosibirsk has published a list of monuments that need urgent restoration
On Sunday, October 13, pickets will be held in Novosibirsk in defense of the city’s historical and cultural heritage.
Despite the requests of the organizers, the mayor's office did not approve holding the event in the city center, where such events are usually held. Accordingly, the pickets will be held at the entrance to the Sibselmash plant on Stantsionnaya Street.
Organizers fear that the city's monuments will deteriorate in 2024. New artifacts have been added to long-abandoned ones, which also puts them at risk of destruction.
Architects and historians, together with the editorial staff of BFM-Novosibirsk, have compiled a list of 10 buildings that are on the verge of disappearing. This list includes, in particular, the buildings of the military city of the Oktyabrsky district, the Kryachkovskaya school on Yakusheva Street, the Metallist cinema, the house of Dusya Kovalchuk, the house of Yanka Dyagileva, the officers' house on Krasny Prospekt and the mosaic panels of the Stroitel Palace of Culture. The condition of many of these objects has worsened over the years. According to experts, it will take about five years for them to disappear completely.
Candidate of Architecture, Associate Professor of NGASU Anna Navolotskaya noted that in Novosibirsk, the preservation of historical buildings is traditionally ignored in favor of the construction of new facilities. She emphasized that developers often ignore the values of cultural heritage, which leads to an increase in the number of monuments being demolished.
The organizers of the picket say that they will continue the fight to preserve the city's historical heritage, despite the current situation.
