Russia Wants to Ban Children Under 14 from Accessing Social Networks

Russia has proposed banning children under 14 from accessing social networks. The chairman of the Association of Entrepreneurs for the Development of Patriotism in Business "AVANTI" Rakhman Yansukov sent a letter with such proposals to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko and Speaker of the State Council Vyacheslav Volodin.

The document states that recently there have been more frequent cases in which businessmen have begun to contact the association with complaints about the presence of prohibited content on social networks and the presence of children on these networks who may view such materials, Izvestia reports.

In particular, it is said that there are about 10,000 terrorist sites on the Internet. Serious risks also come from closed “death groups.”

The organization "AVANTI" called for banning children under 14 from accessing social networks. It is proposed to implement this by registering on social networks only on condition of providing a passport photo.

AVANTI proposed to restrict the activities of social networks that refuse to comply with these rules. Yansukov believes that this will reduce the negative impact of social networks on minors.

Social networks must now independently identify and block illegal content.
