Moldova's Central Election Commission processed 100% of the protocols, Sandu wins
The Central Election Commission of Moldova published these data after 100% processing of protocols from polling stations in the current presidential elections. Maia Sandu, running for a second term, received 55.33% of support, while her opponent, former Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo, received 44.67%.
According to the National Electoral Commission, Maia Sandu received 929,900 votes. 750.6 thousand people voted for Alexandru Stoianoglo. Secondly, the voter turnout was 54.34%.
After the election results were announced, the Socialist Party of Moldova, led by former President Igor Dodon, said it did not recognize the results of the vote at foreign polling stations. Without taking this into account, Alexandru Stoianoglo won with 51.19%. The Moldovan Foreign Ministry reported that 328,000 foreign citizens voted in the elections.
The first presidential elections in Moldova took place on October 20. None of the 11 candidates received more than half of the votes needed to win. Maia Sandu received the support of 42.49% of voters, Alexandru Stoianoglo – 25.95%.
