Forecaster Vilfand: Winter weather and snow will persist in Moscow until November 6
There are no new snow conditions in the capital region, but light snow and sleet are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 5 and 6, said Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center.
According to his forecast, the city will receive about 1-1.5 mm of precipitation, and the snow depth may increase by another 1-2 cm. On Tuesday evening, the temperature in this area will drop to -4 degrees Celsius, and the temperature will drop to -7 degrees Celsius. During the day, the air warms up a little and can fluctuate between minus 1 and minus 1 degree.
At the same time, in Moscow and the Moscow region on the night of the 6th, due to the increase in pressure and the transition of air masses to the north, there will be noticeable frosts, Vilfand emphasized. Therefore, the temperature in the region can drop to -6 - -4 degrees Celsius and even -8 degrees Celsius. During the day, snow is expected in the capital, which will change to rain.
"And, of course, starting on Wednesday in the afternoon, this snow that is now lying on the ground will begin to melt," the forecaster said in a conversation with Interfax.
In addition, the metropolitan area will see subzero ice sheets and some subzero ice sheets for two days. Meteorologists also expect ice to stick to hard structures and power lines.
Accordingly, the temperature in Moscow will begin to rise from Thursday, November 7. The air temperature will fluctuate from minus 2 to 4 degrees Celsius at night and from 4 to 6 degrees Celsius during the day, the air in this area will warm up to 7 degrees Celsius. Daytime temperatures on Friday, the 8th, are expected to be from -5 to 9 degrees Celsius, and on Saturday and Sunday, November 9 and 10, the temperature will be around 10 degrees Celsius.
Snowfall in Moscow has reached 6 cm to date, making Monday the second November 4 of the 21st century in terms of snowfall. Snowfall in the Moscow region ranged from 2 to 10 cm.
Despite the heavy snowfall that has covered Moscow and the region, the capital's airports continue to operate normally. Over the past 24 hours, not a single plane has taken off for an alternative airfield. At the same time, the airport's airfield service is equipped with all the forces and means necessary for stable operation in the cold season.
