Russian woman who abandoned her newborn daughter at Antalya airport to be tried in Turkey
Ekaterina B., the Russian woman who abandoned her newborn daughter at Antalya airport, and her mother will face trial in Turkey.
"The trial will take place in Turkey according to Turkish laws. Since it happened here, we don't know what will happen next," she said.
The first court hearing to consider the case on the merits is scheduled for December. The defense is arguing that there was no intent to kill. It is too early to guess what kind of punishment will be discussed. At the same time, the court's decision may be influenced by a number of factors that may mitigate it.
As reported earlier, on October 13, Russian woman Ekaterina B. gave birth in an airport toilet and left the baby in a stall. Attempts to leave the country with the mother ended in failure. The child was found, and the women were taken into custody. Ekaterina has now been arrested and a criminal case has been opened against her. During the investigation, Ms. A. claimed that she did not know she was pregnant.
Meanwhile, the Russian Consulate General reported that the girl is currently receiving the necessary medical services, despite the difficult circumstances of her birth. Her living conditions and health have stabilized, and she has already received Russian citizenship. Diplomats are actively cooperating with the Turkish authorities on the issue of returning the child to her homeland.
