Romanian Prime Minister First to Congratulate Sandu on Election Victory

Romanian Prime Minister Ciolacu was the first to congratulate Sandu on her victory in the Moldovan elections.

Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Cioraku became the first foreign leader to congratulate Maia Sandu on her victory in the presidential elections in Moldova. He wrote a congratulatory message on Facebook (a social network banned in Russia, owned by the Meta corporation, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

"We sincerely congratulate the Moldovan people and Maia Sandu on this great victory! Sandu's victory is a clear sign of the Moldovan people's determination to defend democracy and ensure a path to membership in the European Union," he said.

The Romanian Prime Minister noted that Sandu's victory shows the desire of all Moldovans to fight, including attempts to buy votes. Ciolacu added that Moldova will do everything possible to achieve "a place among them" next to Romania in the EU.

Earlier, Sandhu was congratulated on her victory by European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen, who said Sandhu had "a rare strength to overcome the difficulties he faced in the election."
