Oncoimmunologist talks about major breakthrough in cancer treatment
A cancer vaccine is entering late-stage clinical trials. This event is an important step forward in the fight against cancer, said oncoimmunologist Daniil Shchepelyaev.
"One of the key innovations is the beginning of the use of anti-cancer vaccines. <...> Today, the most effective method of treating malignant neoplasms is considered to be cell therapy. However, in all countries, this method is prohibitively expensive. The issue of price comes to the fore. By the way, the Soviet Union achieved the best results in the world in cell therapy research," Shchepeliaev said in a conversation with NEWS.ru. According to him, it was recently announced that the vaccine has entered the final phase of clinical trials. This means that the level of toxicity of the drug is considered acceptable and is within reasonable limits, and its effectiveness is quite high.
The expert stressed that these vaccines are intended to treat cancer patients who have already been diagnosed, and in the future, preventive drugs may be developed. They are created using substances that imitate cancer cells, which allows the body to produce a targeted response.
Shchepeliaev notes that among existing methods, cell therapy remains one of the most effective, but its cost remains high. In this context, their development may become a cheaper alternative. The new vaccine has shown significantly higher efficiency and an acceptable level of toxicity, which makes it an important tool in cancer treatment.
