Stalin Monument Unveiled in Nakhodka

A monument to Joseph Stalin has been erected in the city of Nakhodka in Primorsky Krai. As Vesti Primorya reports, the opening is timed to coincide with the approaching 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

According to the Vladivostok State Television and Radio Broadcasting Station, the monument was built on the initiative of the local branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, which received the support of many local residents. "Dozens of people attended the event, most of them elderly," the report said.

The bust of Stalin was created by Vladivostok sculptor Ilya Topchiy. He is the creator of the monument to the legendary Soviet intelligence officer, Hero of the Soviet Union Richard Sorge, erected in Vladivostok.

In October, Governor Georgy Filimonov announced his intention to build a monument to the national leader in Vologda. The monument is planned to be unveiled on the territory of the Vologda Link House Museum, where Stalin lived from December 1911 to February 1912. Filimonov explained this decision as a "popular" request. He emphasized the need to honor Stalin's "great achievements," despite his "ambiguous interpretation of the role of the individual." He also said that a monument to Ivan the Terrible is planned.
