Architect Ekaterina Zhuravleva criticized the appearance of the new building of the Tyumen State University, which will soon open on Respubliki Street. In her opinion, the building "plays with history."
Ekaterina Zhuravleva once advocated for the preservation of the Round Bathhouse on Lenin Street. A planetarium is currently being built on the site.
"The lower element should be larger and heavier than the upper one. Here we see a completely opposite process. The lower columns are several times thinner than the upper ones, so it seems as if the building is standing on tiptoe," Zhuravleva said in an interview with the YouTube channel "Conversations about the City."
According to Zhuravleva, the problem with the new building is that there is no large space next to it, like the government buildings on the central square. Students have nowhere to go after classes.

The new building of Tyumen State University is planned to open this fall. About 3,000 students will study there. The project has caused heated debate among architects and urbanists. The old building of Tyumen State University on Respubliki Street (9) and the old building on Semakova Street (10) were demolished to make room for the huge building in the center of Tyumen.
