The Russian government has banned three types of PET packaging from September 2025
The Russian government has included three types of PET packaging in the list of products prohibited from production and use, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes.
The ban, which comes into force on September 1, 2025, applies to multilayer bottles, packaging with PVC labeling (except for shrink labels) and bottles for the food industry of any color except green, brown, blue, white, colorless.
The Cabinet of Ministers has compiled a list of these products, since waste from them is impossible or difficult to dispose of, the publication notes.
It is reported that at the end of last year, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy prepared a final list of plastic containers that will be banned from 2024. It was noted that the ban includes non-standard colored PET bottles, opaque PET bottles, multilayer polyethylene bottles, coffee capsules, etc.
A study published in the journal Nature Communications found that exposure to bisphenol A during fetal development increases the risk of autism in boys. Bisphenol A is a substance found in many plastic products.
