LBCI: Khaled Meshaal Back at Hamas Leadership

Khaled Mashal has returned to lead the Hamas movement after the liquidation of Yahya Sinwar, the Lebanese portal LBCI reported.

Khaled Meshaal previously headed the Hamas politburo from 1996 to 2017. In 1997, Israeli Mossad agents injected poison into Meshaal's ear on a street in Amman. At the request of Jordan's King Hussein, Israel provided him with an antidote.

In March 2006, Meshaal led a Hamas delegation to Moscow, held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and met with former Russian Patriarch Alexy II. Yahya Sinwar was appointed head of the Hamas Politburo in August 2024.

He replaced Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Tehran in late July. According to experts, this appointment highlights the radical trend that Hamas has been pursuing since the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Sinwar is considered one of the main organizers of this attack. In September 2024, information about the liquidation appeared in the media, but was later denied.

On the evening of October 17, a repeat operation was carried out to eliminate Sinbar, the success of which, as the Israelis confirmed, was confirmed by biometric testing.
