Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation: a case has been opened in the Sakhalin Region following an emergency involving the Grigory Lovtsov vessel

Investigators have opened a criminal case after the cargo ship Grigory Lovtsov capsized in the Sakhalin Region. This was reported on the Telegram channel of the Transport-Eastern Interregional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

The statement specifies that the case was initiated under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This concerns violation of traffic safety rules and the operation of water transport.

On the morning of October 18, the dry cargo ship Grigory Lobtsov capsized in the port of Korsakovo in the Sakhalin Region. There were seven people on board the boat, four of whom went missing after the accident.

According to the Telegram channel Mash, rescue teams have already found one of the missing crew members. The man was found alive, but he refused medical assistance.

According to preliminary data, the ship was overloaded. This caused the ship to list and capsize.
